Title sequences

The girl with the dragon tattoo
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - imbd

From The Art of The Title I found the title sequences for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
The girl with the dragon tattoo was produced by Columbia & Metro-Goldwyn pictures, Blur Studios created the title sequence footage which is mostly realistic CGI. During the opening the titles appear over the opening footage.
The order the titles appear in : Production, Director, Leading man, Leading lady, supporting actors, Title,  Casting, Costume design, Co-producers,  Sound design, Music, Editors, Production designer, Director of photography, Executive producers, Produced by, Based on, Originally published, Screen play, Directed by.
The opening suits the genre of film as it contains a lot of imagery filled with thick black liquid which looks a lot like thick rushing blood. This added to the images of people being restrained, faces melting, being set alight, screaming and being torn apart leave us with some violent imagery which when combined with the oozing black liquid and the manic music with screeched vocals lets the audience know that what they are about to watch will not be for the faint hearted and will contain it's fair share or gore. The imagery in the opening suggests at a serial murderer as there are multiple faces that we see in the opening that fall prey to the violence. As The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a thriller about a journalist who is hired to track down a 16 year old who went missing 40 years ago it is fair to say that the titles do suit the ideas of what is to come in the movie.

Se7en

From The Art of The Title I found the title sequences for Se7en.
Se7en was produced by New line cinemas, R/Greenberg Associates created the title sequence.
During the opening footage the title sequences overlap the footage.
The order the titles appear in : Production company, Producer, Director, Main actors, Title, Supporting actors, Casting, Music, Costume design, Edited, Production design, Director of photography, Co-producers, Co-executive producers, Executive producers, Written by, Produced by, Directed by.
The opening suits the genre of film as it is extremely gritty and cut together creating an uncomfortable effect which quite off putting to watch that coupled with the grating music creates something that is able to both incise you yet thoroughly creep you out in the process. The use of light and shadows in the opening also create a eerie atmosphere that paired with the grotesque imagery managed to disturb the audience. Also the flickering, fleeting and over lapping images feel almost intrusive as they appear on top of images taking their spaces then disappearing quickly. It gives you a hint at the subject of the film being a serial murderer. As Se7en is about a serial killer who's kills are based on the seven deadly sins the titles are relevant to the rest of the film.

American horror story
American Horror Story - imbd

From The Art of The Title I found the tile sequences for American Horror Story season one.

American Horror story season one's title sequence is produced by Prologue.
During the opening footage the titles are inter cut between the footage rather than overlapping.
The order the titles appear in: Leading actors & actress', Supporting actors, created by, Title.
This opening suits the style of the show it manages to shook and revolt while not caring for boundaries things that the show is especially good at. The jumpy roughly gut footage creates a grating effect which is uncomfortable to watch. Much like with Se7en the music only amplifies this effect. The gruesome imagery warns the audience of the shoes gory nature and the frequent pictures of babies give you a clue of the underlying plot through out a fair amount of the series.
